So, as everyone knows, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, is in Kajang Prison serving a 12-year prison sentence after the Federal Court upheld his conviction in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case on August 23.

But then, how is he still appearing on TV?

The Mamu™ Twitter page recently shared an image of the disgraced politician campaigning for the upcoming General Elections (GE15) in an interview on RTM TV1.

They wrote, “It’s as though he is not in jail. Still on TV, campaigning.”

Many echoed the page’s sentiment, sharing their concern that he is apparently free to do as he pleases while incarcerated.

“Live from Kajang Prison, like he’s having a holiday at a resort. Investigate it, don’t not investigate.”

But it turns out that the interview took place before Najib went to prison

In fact, the Malaysian Prison Department clarified that the video Najib is in is an old one.

“The Malaysian Prison Department insists that there is no video recording involving Najib made by any media agency inside the prison premises as it was made viral,”

“The result of a review shows that the video in question was recorded by RTM in conjunction with Kembara Keluarga Malaysia Episode 57, which was before Najib was imprisoned. The video shown on TV1 on October 24, 2022, tells about the history and background of Pekan, Pahang, and is not related to politics,” they shared in a statement.

They also ask that the public do not spread information without doing the necessary due diligence.

Stay tuned for more updates.
