The Henley Passport Index, the original, authoritative ranking of all the world’s passports has just released its latest ranking for the third quarter of 2022 with many interesting developments. The list, which can be found through Henley & Partners website here, was made by ranking the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without having to apply for a visa first.
Just like the 2021 list, Japan retains top spot with a 193 Visa-free score, edging out Singapore and South Korea which shares second place with 192 points each. Previously in 2019, Japan and Singapore shared the top spot. The scores are based on how many countries can residents of the nation can visit visa-free or with visa-on-arrival.
The countries that makes out the top 5 are Germany and Spain at shared third place with 190 points, Finland, Italy and Luxembourg sharing fourth with 189 points and Austria, Denmark, Netherlands and Sweden sharing 5th spot with 188 points. As for the Malaysian passport, we fell down one spot from last year to 13th place with 179 points.
Well, do note that this ranking is just theoretical, should travel restrictions not be put in place. While most of the world has opened up their borders following the Covid-19 pandemic, certain countries still impose restrictions on cross-border travel which have made international travel become quite a headache, regardless how powerful one’s passport is.
