Paying for accommodation would make travellers think twice before embarking on an adventurous journey. It’s even harder when children are tagging along because they simply can’t sit still for a very long time.
However, a creative Malaysian man known as Kas Hariz, solved the accommodation problem by turning a rusty van made in 1983 into a campervan. The model of the van is Datsun C20.
After some modification, the white rusty van turned into a well-equipped campervan with a comfy bed in it. Now, Hariz can travel with his family on a tight budget and still sleep soundly at night.
He posted the progress of modifying his car on his Instagram account, ‘ourdatsunc20’.
Hariz also gave the campervan a new look by painting it in a beautiful turquoise colour.
He replaced the old door panels in the van with new wooden ones, presumably made by himself. Adds to the whole ‘feel’ of it, wouldn’t you say?
Since chilling is definitely needed on vacation, Hariz fitted a mini fan to keep everyone cooled.
To make sure the campervan is neatly organised, a wooden shelf was fitted on the campervan.
To reap the fruit of his labour, Hariz brought his family to a camping trip in Teluk Senangin on the campervan.
“This is the first time we took our 34-year-old campervan a little bit further. We were safe and sound throughout the journey but the van did gave us some minor problems along the way,” commented Hariz.
He uploaded pictures of the trip onto his Instagram account and also shared them on ‘My Campervan Malaysia’. Netizens were simply blown away by his creativity.

Hariz’s innovation and creativity have certainly earned netizen’s respek all over Malaysia. It also inspired several others to build their very own for a dreamy roadtrip like this.
