A 6-year-old boy was suspected of being slashed on the neck with a knife by his 9-year-old brother at their home in Kampung Parit Nipah Laut, Batu Pahat, Johor recently.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) believed the incident happened after the younger sibling accidentally damaged his brother’s phone, causing him to lose about one million points in the online game Roblox.

“We’ll be introducing suitable safety guidelines”
Following the incident, the Malaysian Esports Federation (MESF) announced that it will introduce a digital safety guideline, including one for Roblox, to better protect children online.
According to Berita Harian, MESF president Muhammad Naim Al Amin Saharudin said the initiative was one of the main outcomes of a meeting held with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and representatives from Roblox.
“We’ll be introducing suitable safety guidelines (including for Roblox) and launching awareness programmes to address these issues in a more coordinated way. Together with other stakeholders, MESF will also outline which types of games are appropriate based on age limits,” he told local media.

Muhammad Naim explained that the key concerns identified include the risks of exposure to pedophilia, cyberbullying, gaming addiction, online exploitation, and inappropriate content, often due to a lack of parental supervision.
He added that even though some video games don’t fall under the esports category, MESF remains committed to helping reduce risks and unhealthy behaviours among young players.
He was believed to have experienced hallucinations
As reported earlier, the boy’s parents have been remanded for two days to assist in investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
The 9-year-old suspect was also believed to have experienced nighttime hallucinations influenced by the game, feeling as though he was being told to harm his family, before attacking his younger brother with a knife at home.
The 6-year-old victim is currently being treated at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI) in Batu Pahat.
