Let’s be honest, using your mobile data when you’re out and about can be really frustrating and slow, so we’re definitely not surprised by this recent report!
According to the “State of LTE” report by OpenSignal, a wireless covering mapping specialist based in the United Kingdom, Malaysia was found to have one of the slowest 4G mobile internet services in the world. Sigh.
The report examined a total of 88 countries and ranked each nation according to their speed. So, where did we place? Well, in the bottom 20, with a reported average speed of 14.83 Mbps in the past year.
Although our 4G speed certainly isn’t much in comparison to other countries, our speed has improved compared to the previous year, which was 14.35 Mbps. Ok lah, baby steps!
Meanwhile, Singapore emerged in the top spot, with an impressive average speed of 44.31 Mbps! Walao!
Although these top performing countries have fast 4G speed, the report found that there wasn’t much growth in speed as it seems to have capped off at about 45 Mbps. An excerpt from the report reads,
“For more than a year now, the fastest countries in the world seem to be stuck in a holding pattern, getting close but not surpassing the 50 Mbps threshold for average 4G speed.”
Well, when it comes to our 4G speed, Malaysia definitely has a long way to go to catch up with the rest of the world!
