There have been many cases where Covid-19 patients have tested positive again after recovering which is why Malaysia is taking extra precaution when it comes to discharging its patients.

According to The Star, Covid-19 patients in Malaysia will only be discharged from hospitals once they are truly free of the virus. This is unlike other countries like the United Kingdom and Italy where patients are allowed to go home once they show mild or no symptoms.

However, Malaysia is doing it differently, which has a better outcome than other methods, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“If a patient still tests positive, then we need to make sure they remain in our hospitals,” he said in a press conference on Wednesday (15 April).

“This is different from other countries like the UK and Italy. Over there, once Covid-19 positive patients are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, they are advised to stay at home.

“Here in Malaysia, we make sure our patients are isolated in hospitals, so we can monitor them closely.

“Because of our close monitoring and our way of treatment, we can see that our outcomes are much better.”

Therefore, Covid-19 patients will need to test negative twice in a row before they can be discharged from the hospital.
