“Malaysia is an example of how we can all overcome this”, said international dental surgeon and traveller, Dr.Dustin Pfundheller, in a viral video praising our nation’s fight against Covid-19. The three-minute clip has blown up on Facebook and Instagram, amassing over a million views on both platforms combined.

In the video, Pfundheller talks about our nation’s initial Covid-19 situation: “in March, Malaysia was failing… They had three times more cases than any country in Southeast Asia. The virus was in every state and federal territory.

However, he marvelled at the way the government immediately imposed measures such as the MCO and CMCO by strictly monitoring all travel and cancelling events that involved large gatherings of people.

“And Malaysia’s case numbers… They started to drop.”

The video then showed how other South-East Asian countries started to exceed Malaysia’s numbers in recorded Covid-19 infections from 14th April onwards, adding that our fellow neighbours on the other side of the Causeway now has “15 times the case rate of Malaysia.”

The avid traveller then went on to say how our country’s inspiring fight against the virus, needs to be known worldwide!

“Malaysia is an example that we can all overcome this, how a country that had so many cases did the right stuff to stop the spread and almost no media is talking about it.”

“Malaysia’s Covid-19 numbers are good. But when you realise at one point they were three times worse than any country in Southeast Asia, and now they’re one of the best, it’s an incredible story that needs to be told.

Since the video garnered viral attention from both Malaysian and international viewers, our very own transport minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, acknowledged that Malaysia was rightfully receiving the attention we deserved.

“Our country’s story should be shared to the world and this indirectly gives Malaysia the recognition on our fight against the Covid-19 pandemic,” said the minister in a statement recorded by the Star.

We should be proud that others worldwide are praising Malaysia’s efforts, with the hard work credited to the government, the Health Ministry, police, Armed Forces and all the agencies that have been fighting the pandemic for the past few months, including Malaysians who have complied with the MCO,” he added.

This is a reputation we could get used to! Share this video if it makes you proud to call our country your home.
