Tired of playing Monopoly or Plato? Want something different? How about supporting the local scene by buying this fun card game by a local, independent board game creator? Introducing Kuih-Muih!
Kuih-Muih is the second game created by independent board game creator, Mike Ooi.
The packaging of the game is certainly very attractive as it has a variety of bright colours. The rule book clearly states the rules in the game and it is very easy to understand.
Kuih-Muih is a card game that simulates your experience of going to a roadside kuih stall! It is a point-accumulation game and it has three rounds. You don’t start off with any cards instead, there will be a few decks in the middle and you would have to pick out the cards just like you pick out kuih. Each kuih has their own abilities and of course, there are certain cards which can help you win or sabotage other people. It’s safe to say that some friendships were lost during this game.
During the gameplay, we started off slow and got the hang of it pretty quickly. From then on, our competitive side came on and we had so much fun collecting the kuih-muih.
In an interview, Mike told us that he was in the finance field before he took the leap of faith to make board games. It has been 3 years ever since then and he has created two games now with the first being Math Genius and the second being Kuih-Muih.
He said that as the game publishing sector now is still very small, he sees potential in it and decided to take the gamble. The first game that he created, Maths Genius had lukewarm reception as it was very focused on numbers. However, Mike told us that some teachers and parents think that the game is an excellent educational game/teaching tool!
With Kuih-Muih, Mike hopes that the affordable, adorable card game will entertain Malaysians of all ages!
“I just want people to have fun and at the same time, spreading the local culture!”
Here’s a teeny part of our gameplay!
You can get the Kuih-Muih cards online on either Shopee or Lazada, you can also buy it in-store at Kinokuniya!
