Many of us head to Ikea not just for its affordable furniture but also for its yummy Swedish meatballs. But Ikea is also famed for their signature large blue tote that is super roomy and the size is just nice for all your Ikea shopping needs.
I’m sure you have one at home lurking somewhere! Or even two!
The Frakta carrier bag only costs RM2, which is a steal because it is extremely durable, plus there’s no confusing assembly required!
But looks like French luxury brand, Balenciaga is back at it again as their brand new tote looks remarkably familiar.
For starters, Balenciaga’s Arena Extra-Large Shopper Tote Bag has that sharp, royal-blue colour we all know and love, similar trapezoidal shape, wide shoulder straps and is generously sized.
The one huge difference about the two bags is the price tag, with Balenciaga’s version retailing for a cool $2,145 (RM9,455).
The bag is not made from recyclable polypropylene but made of blue wrinkled, glazed leather.
It isn’t 100% similar, as the Arena does not have the distinctive Ikea branding on the straps but settles for a small gold label.
Ikea is flattered that Balenciaga is taking inspiration from their iconic tote and said, “We are deeply flattered that the Balenciaga tote bag resembles the Ikea iconic sustainable blue bag for 99 cents. Nothing beats the versatility of a great big blue bag!”
“Our IKEA FRAKTA tote is one of our most iconic products which are already owned and loved by millions – now many people truly can get the designer look for less.”
However, Balenciaga has not commented on the bag’s similarities.
You’d reckon their designs would be much more original, on the account that they’ve made headlines with their past bag design that looks awfully like Asian market bags.
