We thought we could only see LRTs in KL, but it turns out you can also see them in Tioman waters now!
According to BERNAMA, 2 light rail transit (LRT) replica coaches were submerged in Pulau Tioman; the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) recognises this milestone.
The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, officiated this event at the Berjaya Tioman resort. Tengku Ampuan of Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah and the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, were also in attendance.
During his royal address, the Sultan of Pahang expressed his hopes that this initiative by Yayasan Al-Sultan Abdullah (Yasa) would be able to impact the resort island positively.
“I hope this artificial reef will serve as an attraction for visitors, especially diving enthusiasts.”
The sultan elaborated, “I hope that this artificial reef will aid (in preserving) the marine ecosystem around Pulau Tioman, and I welcome further efforts to rehabilitate coral reefs here.”
Al-Sultan Abdullah also urged those in charge to ensure that the LRT coaches are in good condition to prevent any accidents from occurring.
Yasa general manager Fakhrul Islam Juhali has said that the submersion of the 2 LRT coaches involved 60 divers.
Fakrul added that this site was designed to create a breeding ground for fish and other marine life, which can help enhance the sustainability of its marine biodiversity.
“We also hope this dive site will boost the local economy by drawing more tourists to Pulau Tioman.”
