We’re living in an era of mental illness without a safe haven for mental illness.
The subject around this matter is, unfortunately, still considered taboo to speak about. With all the current hoo-ha about banning Coldplay’s concert which is scheduled in November 2023, a local preacher came forward to spread more positivity, and he did it by using one of Coldplay’s best songs – Fix You.
In an old video where the preacher discusses 1 of the world’s most “prolific killers” – depression, Ustaz Don Daniyal mentioned a sentence from the lyrics of Fix You,
“You get what you want, but not what you need.”
The preacher explained the line as a moment where someone cannot fulfill what he really wants when he actually does not know what he wants in life.
To him, Fix You is a good illustration of those who are suffering from depression, especially those who are having a hard time grasping what they really want in life.
“What do you really want? A happy life? Being rich?”
Ustaz Don then used an Islamic history as a brief explanation of how depression has long existed back then, and it stems from how many people are struggling to come to terms with their destinies.
“They struggle to put things together, and when something bad takes place, that’s how depression happens.”
Keep in mind that Ustaz Don did not mean any harm to those suffering from depression and in fact, he wished them well. He simply mentioned Coldplay’s Fix You as one of the songs that depicts one of the situations of depression.
“When you feel so tired, but you can’t sleep, Stuck in reverse”, as sung by Coldplay in Fix You.
In case you’re feeling gloomy, here’s where you can listen to Fix You, and you can watch and listen to Ustaz Don’s take on depression below. The video was uploaded back in 2018 but has recently gone viral on Twitter again.
In case you’re suffering from any kind of mental illness, we sincerely wish you well and hopefully, you’re getting the help you need.
Is Fix You your go-to song when you’re moody?
