Malaysia is truly a gorgeous country, and once in a while, we bump into Malaysians who see our country in a more unique light than others, giving all of us a whole new perspective on the beauty that is Malaysia.
Tan Yong Lin, better known as YongL, is definitely one of those out of the box, uniquely creative individuals who has captured Malaysia in a fresh, eccentric and completely unparalleled light. The best part is that not only does he take ridiculously amazing pictures, but the photographer extraordinaire also took his childhood affinity for drawing and painting into his digital images to create surreal conceptualisations of Malaysian sceneries.
However, beauty does come through pain, as YongL usually spends a week to work on each image, from the ideation stages to the finishing touches. YongL would begin by sketching out the concept of the image before taking his time on Adobe Photoshop to ensure every single minor detail is meticulously set in its place.
“It depends on the complexity. I usually start with a sketch inside my head or on paper then proceed to gather the necessary photos, which finally leads to the combination or composition process on the computer. So it usually takes a few days to a week.” YongL told WORLD OF BUZZ.
When asked about how he had come up with the idea of conceptual imaging, YongL said, “It all began from my hobby of drawing and painting. As I got older, I came in touch with photography and I thought of using it as my tool to draw and paint. To bring my imagination and vision to life.”
Who knew Malaysia could look so whimsical with just a touch of imagination! We can’t wait to see what else YongL has in store for us in the future.
Images like this really show that Malaysia should be a setting for fantasy movies!
