A local graffiti artist is calling out the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) for apparently painting over his artworks, which beautified two old bus stops.

Taking to his Instagram page, he pointed out that his artworks made the old, abandoned mini stores at the bus stops look vibrant compared to the dilapidated state they were previously in.

He wrote, “Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, why did you remove my art?”

Cloakwork explains what the mini-shops were for

“These old-fashioned bus stops, with traditional mini-shops attached, were originally built by the government to support the underprivileged. They allowed people to sell items like soda, coolers, snacks and more, often catering to bus passengers or taxi drivers waiting nearby,”

“Nowadays, these mini-shops are no longer found at modern bus stops. Only a few remain in the city, and many are in poor condition. One day, as I passed by one of these stops, I thought to myself: Why not use my skills to give them a fresh, vibrant makeover and brighten up the area?” he shared.

He then urged DBKL to use taxpayers’ money to make better changes to public facilities, such as fixing potholes.

“Instead of spending taxpayers money to cover my harmless art, why not try to fix the potholes on the road?”
