A total of 650 breast cancer patients have registered with the Yayasan Kaseh Kanser dan Kronik (YKKK) over the past five years, reflecting a growing level of awareness. However, continuous efforts are still needed to promote early detection and ensure prompt treatment.
According to Harian Metro, YKKK Chairman Datuk Dr Imi Sairi Ab Hadi said that out of this number, 280 patients are currently active members of the Kelantan Breast Cancer Club. They are encouraged to remain committed to participating in various awareness and patient support programs organised by the foundation.

Dr Imi Sairi noted that statistics show nearly 50% of breast cancer patients in Malaysia are diagnosed at stages three and four, while only 30% are detected at stages one and two, making treatment more challenging.
“To speed up screening and treatment processes, the Pink Ribbon Centre was established at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II) last February. This center allows patients to walk in without having to wait long,” he said.
Dr Imi Sairi, who is also a Consultant Breast and Endocrine Cancer Surgeon at HRPZ II, added that the centre has successfully achieved a zero no-show rate for patient appointments, thanks to the efforts of appointed community and clinical nurses who track patients to ensure they receive timely treatment.

“The establishment of the Pink Ribbon Centre is a collaboration between Cancer Research Malaysia and the Ministry of Health (MOH) to monitor patient treatment from early detection through follow-up care.”
“For patients facing financial constraints, we also provide transportation assistance for hospital visits,” he added.
He expressed hope that similar treatment centers could be expanded across all districts in Kelantan and other states, noting that there are currently only nine such centers nationwide.
He also advised women to perform monthly breast self-examinations and undergo regular mammogram screenings, as early detection can greatly increase the chances of effective treatment.
