Just yesterday, it was reported that a local barber shop in Bukit Bintang had charged a British YouTuber a whopping RM120 for an RM19 haircut, stating that the additional amount was a ‘foreigner tax‘.
Now, both the foreign worker who charged the YouTuber and the owner of the barber shop are facing the law.
According to a report by Kosmo, the director of the Kuala Lumpur branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Life (KPDN) Ariffin Samsudin shared that an inspection was conducted following complaints detected through social media.
“As a result of the inspection, we found that 2 foreigners were believed to be working at the premises, a Pakistani man and an Algerian man. However, the Algerian man who is believed to be a part-time worker has verbally admitted to the high charges against the tourists,” he said,
He added that the marked-up prices were not on display at the shop.
His party has since contacted the business owner and that they will arrange a meeting with them at their office for further investigations.
“The 2 foreign workers have also come to the office to share their testimony,” he shared.
This action was taken under AKHAP 2011 on the error of no price marking.
