Every Malaysian knows and loves Genting Highlands. I mean, it’s one of the most perfect place for us to literally chill!
We would head up there for its theme park (which is closed and still under construction), casinos, arcades, retail and F&B stores; but how many of us actually paid attention to the hotels there? One of their hotels holds quite the amazing title too!
World’s largest hotel.
I’m sure most of you guys didn’t know that leh?
Well, with a whopping total of 7,351 hotel rooms, First World Hotel has set the Guinness World Record for the largest hotel in the world!

Back in 2006, First World was actually the world’s first at 6,118 rooms, but its crown was later stolen by The Palazzo, an extension of The Venetian in Las Vegas, which has 7,117 rooms (4,049 rooms, 3,068 suites). However, in 2015, First World swooped in and took back the crown and regained its title of world’s largest hotel after opening a new block.
First World Hotel is made up of two towers, Tower 1 and Tower 2 (plus an extension known as Tower 2 Annex). It holds 3,164 standard rooms, 292 deluxe rooms, 649 deluxe triple rooms, 480 superior deluxe rooms, and 136 world club rooms. Over their nine years of operation since their record in 2006, the hotel has housed over 35.5 million guests.
Besides the massive number of rooms, First World Hotel is also the first hotel in Southeast Asia to launch E-Kiosks or Express Check-in and Check-out kiosks. That means you can check yourself in and out automatically at the kiosks! So canggih right?

Proud or not?
However, it looks like First World Hotel has a contender because a hotel in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, is set to beat its record with a crazy total of 10,000 rooms! This hotel is known as Abraj Kudai and it’s a project that costs a hefty RM14.7 billion!

The hotel is currently under construction and was supposed to open in 2017, but reports show that the hotel is having trouble completing within its schedule. This is due to the plummet of oil prices, causing quite a disruption in the Saudi economy. So who knows when this hotel is ever going to complete!
For now, Malaysia will still hold on to our throne!
