Last night (September 29), social media was abuzz from an incident where patrons were evacuated from Suria KLCC due to an alleged fire inside the premises.
Suria KLCC has since taken to their Facebook page to clarify that smoke from a rubbish bin at the back-of-house area of the shopping mall had caused a fire alarm to go off, which led to the evacuation for the safety of everyone.
They wrote, “At approximately 8:07pm on September 29, 2024, a fire alarm was triggered in the back-of-house area at Suria KLCC due to the presence of smoke. The smoke was primarily contained within the stairwell, but as a precaution, management initiated an evacuation to ensure the safety of all visitors and tenants.”
“The Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) was contacted immediately and arrived at 8:15pm. The smoke, which originated from a bin belonging to one of the tenants, was quickly brought under control and fully dissipated by 8:45pm. BOMBA cleared the area and the mall was deemed safe for customers to re-enter at approximately 9:34pm.”
Thankfully, no injuries or casualties were reported.
Suria KLCC went on to thank BOMBA personnel for swiftly responding to their call and assured the general public that safety remains their top priority.
