With more highways in Malaysia opened to the public, especially the elevated ones, the time taken to travel to our respective destinations is not only cut short but the new routes also allow us to avoid hectic traffic in Klang Valley.
Road users also get the opportunity to enjoy the sunset or the view of the skyscrapers at night during their drive but nothing comes for free. A driver from JB recently visited KL and used the SPE Elevated Highway (Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway) which was opened in late 2023.
In his Xiao Hong Shu (RED) post @JHong JB Home, the driver, Hong was expecting to see traffic but was surprised to find out there were barely any vehicles on the highway. He took photos of his trip on the elevated highway and checked with social media users, in case they knew about the absence of traffic at the place.
To those who are not aware, the SPE highway is a 29.8km elevated highway that connects multiple areas in the Klang Valley with 7 interchanges, with the aim to relief the city’s traffic.
As you may have guessed it, the toll fares won’t be as cheap as other locations.
“This is Hermes Highway, we use Charles & Keith Highway”
Hong didn’t need to wait long for his answer. Social media users flocked to the comment sections and told him exactly why he didn’t see other cars on that elevated highway – the toll fares aren’t cheap.
“As of now, not many road users use SPE highway. The toll fares are not cheap at all.”
“It’s the best route if you’re going to PJ, Setapak, or Bukit Bintang. There aren’t a lot of destinations that you can go to. The pros, however, is that it’s really time-saving.”
“I love this highway, the views are absolutely amazing. But it’s expensive.”
“A highway with amazing view for RM3.50. Go longer and you’ll spend for RM7 or RM10.50 on toll fares alone.”
“This highway is really good, but it’s really expensive.”
“I would only use SPE if I’m rushing home to sleep at night. From Setapak to Seri Kembangan in less than 30 minutes but for RM7.50.”
Since its opening last year, have you used the SPE elevated highway? The view is, no doubt, mesmerising but to avoid the traffic, are you willing to spend more on toll fares?
