While the date of the 15th General Election (GE) is yet to be announced, the Ministry of Health already has a plan which includes the people who are infected with the Covid-19 virus.
Individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19 may be allowed to vote in GE 15, says Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
“Covid-19 is here to stay with us and may remain in the community for a long time. Continuing to deny them the ability to vote would be a violation of their constitutional rights,” Khairy explained.
During a media conference today, Khairy revealed that the MoH and the GE Commission are in the midst of coming up with the best and safest measures so that the infected ones can still carry their due diligence as Malaysians.
In response to the postal voting method for the infected, Khairy said it would be ineffective for the people who catch the virus a day or 2 before the date of the GE.
He added that the government will require some time to come up with a list of guidelines on the matter. Additionally, Khairy elaborated,
“We need to identify the most suitable timing and the period of lowest peak to hold the GE as it involves the whole nation coming out to vote.”
As of now, there is no specific timeline given by Khairy on the release of the new guidelines for the upcoming GE. Do you think it is a wise idea?
