Caretaker Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin is proposing for the continuation of the PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia programme should Barisan Nasional (BN) win the 15th General Election (GE15). Furthermore, the incumbent Rembau Member of Parliament (MP) also said that the programme would be further extended from B40 students at selected tertiary education institutions to all Malaysian students at all institutes of higher learning.
As reported by Malaysia Gazette, Khairy, who is contesting the Sungai Buloh Parliamentary seat this GE15 stressed that this is not an empty promise and that he will be proposing for the programme to be retained and expanded, as well as being implemented every year to the Prime Minister. He also lauded the initiative, which has given free tablets to B40 students as something that will help recipients in their studies immensely.
Khairy further elaborated,
“I feel for students who have to borrow their parents’ handphones with small screens. If we want to be 5G nation, we need to give (the PerantiSiswa tablets). If we become the government, we will give to all students of higher learning,”
As for the recent reports of students selling their PerantiSiswa tablets, Khairy said that these occurrences are just a minority of those that are irresponsible. The BN Sungai Buloh candidate said that tablets are now no longer a luxury but a necessity for students, especially those from the B40 group.
