2,800 appointments that were supposed to be held on 15 & 16 May for AstraZeneca vaccinations at the Putra World Trade Center (PWTC) will be rescheduled to take place between 17 to 23 May.
Due to the recent spike of Covid-19 cases, the Coordinating Minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, Khairy Jamaluddin said this step has been taken to avoid large crowds and ensure physical distancing at the vaccine centre.
BERNAMA reported that the recipients for the delayed appointment will be notified starting from tomorrow (11 May) through SMS and the MySejahtera app for their new appointment date.
“Almost 19,000 vaccination appointments were initially set for the two dates (15-16 May) in line with the centre’s full capacity,” he said in a press conference on the development of the immunisation programme today (10 May).
“The number, however, will be reduced to 8,100 per day or 16,200 for the two days. The full capacity (of the vaccination centre) at the WTC is about 9,000 per day,” he added.
Three larger halls at the WTC will be opened starting Wednesday (12 May) to increase the number of halls used for the AstraZeneca vaccination centre.
Khairy said no walk-ins are allowed and after being contacted by the staff, those who are still on the waiting list only need to come to the vaccination centre. However, due to slot shortage, there were approximately 60,000 people who chose to be on the waiting list.
“In a bid to achieve herd immunity and to vaccinate all Malaysians as soon as possible, we try to make optimal use of the capacity of every vaccination centre (PPV),” he said.
