Mr. Kuan Chee Heng is a popular local social activist that is well-known and loved by many for his charitable acts.
He is famous for his 10-sen initiatives which provides the homeless and poverty-stricken folks in Malaysia with services and household goods which he “sells” for only 10 sens.
One of his most notable acts of kindness which went viral was connecting another person with a big heart to another needy family back in October 2016.
J Senthil Kumar, a stock analyst wanted to sell off his old Proton Iswara when he upgraded to a new car but when he went to the used car dealer to ask about the selling price, he found out that it could only be sold for RM2,000.
“I didn’t sell the car after I asked a used car dealer that it would only fetch RM2,000. Actually I was rather hesitant to sell it off as the 14-year-old car has seen me through college and has contributed much to my life.
“That was when I thought of donating it to someone else who would need it much more than me.” he said.
That was when a friend of his suggested that he should give it to Kuan who could help his car reach the people who needed it the most. He didn’t even know who would be the lucky owner of his car would be, until Kuan introduced him the single mother who received his car.
After Kuan introduced Kumar to the new owner, he discovered that Rohaya Md Isa had lost her husband about seven years ago and she was battling cancer.
She has five children living with her in a low cost flat.
She said, “Before this, we only had a motorcycle which meant that we had to endure the rain and sun when we wanted to go anywhere. But now with the car, we can be more comfortable.
“I didn’t know who was the donor until Kuan introduced us and I am very grateful and touched by his kindness. I only just found out that he is a different race from us, he has such a good and kind heart to help our family. Thank you so much.”
That is exactly the 1Malaysia spirit right there!
Kumar also went the extra mile to ensure that the car would be in a good condition before he handed it over to Kuan. He took the used car to be serviced and to change the batteries so that the new owner would not encounter any difficulties with it. So much kindness!
“It doesn’t matter if she is a Malay, I would still help those in need. I only found out that it was a single mother who received it after looking through Kuan’s social media account.”
Kumar added,”For me, if you have the intention to help others, you don’t have to look at the race or religion of the person in need. Instead, it should be one human being offering help to another human being in need. We should see other people as just humans, and not define them by their race, religion or beliefs. I believe that our thinking and perception should change to be truly united as Malaysians.”
Yes, this kind man wanted to give his car away for free in the beginning but he says that he now keeps the 10 sen payment he received as sentimental memorabilia.
This is humanity at its finest, people! And that should what 1Malaysia should all be about!
