While the Covid-19 Movement Control Order (MCO) may not be easy on everyone, it’s the random acts of kindness people are doing that is making all the tough times feel worth while.

People who are staying in the safety of their homes are doing their level best to show their appreciation for those who are keeping us safe during this trying time.

For example, a Singaporean GrabFood delivery man by the name of Derrick took to Stomp to showcase an incident where a customer had bought food not just for him but for his team.

The customer wrote to Derrick, “Hi, please do not send the order to me. I ordered this as a thank you meal for the delivery staff. Would be great if you can give this to your Muslim staff for their breaking of fast. Thank you. Stay safe and take care.”

Derrick said that he was shocked when the message he received told him that the food was actually for him

“It was a normal order to me and as I was in the midst of fetching and delivering the previous order, I did not really take a good look at the message that she had sent,” he said.

“I was shocked when I saw the message telling me that the food was actually ordered just for me and my fellow colleagues. At the same time, the customer called me to check whether I had received the message.”

“When we were on the phone, I asked her what on earth I had done to deserve this reward from her. She told me to just take the food for me and my fellow colleagues before hanging up.”

The customer then replied that it was just a token of appreciation for him during this time.

“It is really nothing, just a little appreciation for all of you. Times are bad but I hope all of you can hang on. Take care,” the customer wrote.

Derrick then told Stomp that he will never forget this day.

“To the lady Ms CYN, I would just like to say a very big thank you. I don’t who you are and neither I know you, but I just want to say you warmed everyone’s heart. You are the kindest soul that I’ve ever met,” he told Stomp.

“Once again, really a big thank you for the spontaneous food that you had given to me and my fellow colleagues. We will never forget this day: 24/04/2020.”

“Although it’s tough times for all of us now, be it essential or non-essential working adult, I do believe that we all will pull through it as one nation.”

Times like this is when we realise that it is the people that we normally take for granted are the ones we truly need. We hope that the appreciation for delivery riders and workers will continue to prevail even after the lockdowns are over.
