To some, the King of fruits tastes like paradise, and to others, the pungent smell of durian can easily cause discomfort. Regardless, if not handled properly, the fruit can harm anyone due to its thorny exterior.

Just recently in Shanghai, a child went through 1 of the most painful experiences in her life when a durian fell and landed on her face. According to a video shared on Weibo, it was reported that the vendor was carrying a durian at the time but the fruit slipped off his hand and hit the poor little girl in the face.

Her mother immediately brought her to the nearest hospital and spent RMB2000 (approximately RM1,276) for medical expenses. Unfortunately, that was not all.

“The doctor said the child needs to return a few more times for further treatment on her wounds, and some scares are expected to stay.”

Judging from the blurred video, the wounds and scars on the little girl’s face can be easily spotted. More treatments meant more money, and the mother approached the vendor to discuss the compensation.

However, the durian vendor refused to pay any compensation for the girl’s medical expenses.

The mother then proceeded to lodge a police report but unfortunately, the authorities have not been able to contact the vendor.

“Both parties are responsible”

Netizens, on the other hand, believed that the vendor should not take the blame alone but the mother should be blamed for receiving the durian with only 1 hand.

“Judging from the video, I think the mother has to be responsible too and she’s not entirely guilty. The vendor was passing the durian and she only received it with 1 hand. I feel sorry for the child, her face is disfigured at such a young age.”

“The video tells me both parties are responsible.”

“Both sides are at fault, the mother did not take the durian from the vendor properly.”

Do you think the vendor should compensate the child’s medical expenses?
