The number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia has lessened exponentially during the MCO/CMCO period thanks to the tireless effort by the Ministry of Health. Even though the numbers may be few, the threat is still there. To ensure the safety of all Malaysians, the government has forbidden any interstate travel during Raya this year.
Starting last weekend, many roadblocks were set up at tolls to catch people travelling without a permit. In addition to that, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has said that police and army personnel will be patrolling neighbourhoods to ensure that Malaysians abide by the SOPs given by the government.
Earlier today, it seems that the Kedah police have already started going on these spot-check patrols.
According to a viral Facebook post by PDRM Kubang Pasu, it is understood that authorities in Kubang Pasu have already kickstarted the house-to-house checks today (20th May).
It was mentioned that the authorities who can conduct these spot checks are PDRM, RELA, the army and also the civil defence force.
Senior Minister Ismail Sabri said on 19th May that authorities may find cause to further investigate your household if they find many vehicles parked outside the residence as this may indicate that many people are gathering in the same place at once.
Other than that, if they find the vehicles suspicious, they will cross-check the plate number with their list to see if the owner has travelled interstate and whether they had permission to do so. If they find out that the person travelled interstate without a permit, then the authorities will take action under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and Police Act 1967.
Don’t be alarmed when they knock on your doors to conduct these spot-checks! They’re just doing their duty by making sure everyone is abiding by the SOPs (no interstate travel, no more than 20 visitors at a time).
We hope that everyone will respect the SOPs given by the government and please, try to stay at home if there is no actual need to go out!
