Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in his live press conference today (4 February) that the government has agreed to allow barber shops, car wash services, and night markets to operate.

He said these places will be allowed to operate throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO) until 18 February.

  • Night markets allowed to open from 4pm to 10pm.
  • Hair salons and barbers can operate until 10pm. Only haircuts are allowed. No beauty services.
  • Car wash shops can operate until 10pm.

“After discussing this and after finding that there are no clusters resulting from these activities, the National Security Council (MKN) has agreed to allow the three activities to open,” Ismail Sabri said.

According to MKN, these changes will take effect starting 4 February 2021. Ismail Sabri emphasised that if these premises recorded positive Covid-19 cases or if SOPs were not adhered to, they will immediately be shut down.

This announcement comes after Ismail Sabri said in an earlier press conference on 2 February that they will be releasing a new set of stricter standard operating procedures (SOP).
