Since the announcement of Malaysia’s 8th Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and that he will be sworn in tomorrow (1 March 2020), debates had been going on social media. There are people who support this decision, and many more who are against it.
For the people who are enraged by this piece of news that had Malaysia shaken on this Leap Day, many had plans to gather at Dataran Merdeka tonight (29 February) for a demonstration.
Announcements were made by various netizens on Twitter and Instagram, although we cannot confirm who were the people who organised this particular demonstration/protest. While this information is being spread across social media, the objective of this demonstration was not stated clearly. The only information given was that it will begin at 8:30pm tonight.
This post was seen on Instagram, titled with a suggestive headline, while the other posts on Twitter are spreading the information as an invitation.
One of them even reminded the demonstrators involved to protest peacefully and be rational with their actions. It is also important to wear face masks and use hand sanitisers amidst the Covid-19 situation.
For those of you who are hanging around Kuala Lumpur city centre, stay safe.
