Religious department officers in Johor recently apprehended a female student for khalwat with her boyfriend at her rented house in Batu Pahat.
The student, who is in her early 20s, said she had texted her boyfriend and invited him over when all her female housemates were not at home.
According to her, the rented house is a female-only unit, and at the time, her three other housemates were out. A spokesperson from the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) stated that the woman had asked her boyfriend to come quickly before her housemates returned.

Unfortunately, their night was unexpectedly interrupted when religious department officers arrived after receiving multiple complaints from nearby residents about the couple’s “suspicious behaviour.”
A discussion about studies
In a Facebook post, JAINJ said the woman opened the door, and officers found the man sitting on the couch, wearing a T-shirt and kain pelikat. The man lives less than 3 km from his girlfriend’s rented house.
When questioned, he told the officers that he was there to discuss studies with his girlfriend.

Regardless of his explanation, the officers instructed him to get dressed to go to the police station. However, the man said he could only wear the same outfit, as he had just returned from the surau and did not bring an extra pair of trousers.
If found guilty, the couple faces a fine of up to RM3,000 or a jail term of up to two years.
