Recently, a Malaysian man who was allegedly turned away by a car wash in Johor discovered that the shop only served foreign-registered vehicles.
The car wash owner later claimed that the time slot had already been booked by foreign customers and they couldn’t accommodate him, which sparked public backlash.

“We won’t tolerate businesses like this”
Following the backlash, the Johor State Government has ordered the revocation of the car wash’s business license after it was found to only accept customers from Singapore, China Press reported.
Johor State Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman Datuk Haji Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said he’s keeping a close eye on the issue and will make sure local operators who run their businesses this way are properly investigated and face similar action.
“We won’t tolerate businesses in Johor that prioritise foreign customers while ignoring locals just to make more money,” he said.

“They must fulfil their CSR”
Mohd Jafni has also reminded all businesses in the state to fulfil their corporate social responsibilities (CSR).
“I would like to remind all businesses in the state that while pursuing profits, they must also fulfil their corporate social responsibilities (CSR) and not ignore the locals.”
He explained that, like the Johor Affordable Housing (RMMJ) programme, developers can earn profits but must also build affordable homes in return.
“It works just like the Johor Affordable Housing (RMMJ) programme, where developers are allowed to profit from their projects, but they also have to give back by building affordable homes. This way, as Johor grows, regular people won’t get left behind.”
