The election of Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah as the new Agong comes just weeks after the resignation of our 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V, who announced he was stepping down on 6th January.
It was previously announced that the Conference of Rulers would convene on 24th January to elect a new Agong, while a swearing-in ceremony would be held next Thursday (31st January). After this private ceremony, the newly sworn-in Agong can then decide when he would like to hold the ceremonial installation.
