Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) Councillor Dickson Tan is reminding fireworks vendors that they are required to have fire extinguishers available at their stalls.
Taking to his Facebook page, he shared how vendors in Kajang were issued warning letters after many were found without firefighting equipment on hand.

He wrote, “The Kajang Municipal Council has recently received numerous complaints about fireworks vendors setting off fireworks after closing time in the early morning, prompting an inspection operation tonight (27 January).”
“The operation found that only one stall had a fire extinguisher on hand. Others claimed (their extinguishers) were at home, in their cars, or that they were unaware of the requirement. Licensing officers issued warning letters to the vendors, stating that repeat offenders will be fined or have their goods confiscated,” he added.
Fireworks vendors must have fire extinguishers on hand

While fireworks and firecrackers are regulated as explosives under the Explosives Act 1957 in Malaysia, legal sales during festive seasons require specific safety measures.
Hence, the councillor went on to emphasise that fireworks vendors MUST have fire extinguishers on hand.
“I reiterate my urge for all fireworks vendors to ensure that fire extinguishers are always available at their stalls and are fully functional. We do not want to see any accidents occur.”
