A Maybank branch that has ceased operations in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah recently became a sudden hotspot for tourists, particularly those from China. Local tourists also took the opportunity to flock to the place for an Instagram-worthy photo and now, the Kota Kinabalu City Council (DBKK) also paid the place a visit.
In a Facebook post this morning (August 15), the Landscape Department of DBKK revealed that they have deployed officers to the scene for some cleaning work.
“We’ve cleaned the Maybank building on Jalan Gaya, so it’ll appear cleaner in your pictures!”
It seems that they are well aware of the viral trend and are expecting more visitors to be there to snap more photos with this particular Maybank branch and give their photo gallery an update!
In another statement by DBKK, among the initiatives that have been taken include clearing the wild plants that grow on buildings in Gaya Street and maintaining lush trees in the Sinsuran lobby.
“The initiative of removing wild plants on buildings around the city was started on July 12, in conjunction with Operation Gaya Street Cleaning organized by DBKK together with the vendors of the Api-Api Night Food Market.”
The work involved a team of 10 members, who also trimmed the trees around the commercial premises, in Sinsuran.
“We will continue to preserve Kota Kinabalu’s image as a green and livable city.”
“Keep up the good work, DBKK!”
Netizens were happy to see that the City Council is proactively taking measures to improve the condition of the area, and 1 of them also suggested ways to enhance the beauty of the place.
"Congratulations, DBKK! Now it looks good for pictures."
"Keep it up! If possible, improve the looks of the old buildings around the town."
"We have to thank the very 1st person who took picture there and made the place viral."
"That's proactive! Congratulations, DBKK! This is what we want!"
To our friends in Sabah, what do you think of DBKK's efforts? Have you joined the crowds in taking pictures at the spot?
