Just yesterday (January 1), the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) condemned and called out Malaysians for having a third-world mentality by leaving our country’s capital completely littered while ushering in the New Year.
Now, we know just how much effort it took to clean up the mess.
Alam Flora Sdn Bhd took to their TikTok page to showcase how much rubbish was littered around Kuala Lumpur during the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s celebrations as well as the number of people it took, a whopping 128 staff members, to clean it all up.
They shared, “Alam Flora estimates that 3.06 tonnes of rubbish was collected after the completion of the collection and clean up work after the New Year celebrations in the Kuala Lumpur area yesterday (January 1).”
“A total of 128 clean-up workers, supervisors and operational executives from Alam Flora carried out the cleaning work as early as 12 midnight onwards. The areas involved in the cleaning work are KLCC, Bukit Bintang and Dataran Merdeka.”
It was a massive operation!
In their video, Alam Flora staff members could be seen pushing large rubbish bins around as they collected litter from the roadsides and even from inside bushes.
They also had to sweep the roads to collect tiny bits of confetti and other small pieces of trash.
These hard workers really do deserve to be praised and recognised for their efforts, though we do wish they didn’t have to do all of that considering we, as Malaysians, could have easily disposed of our trash properly instead of littering.
