The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has announced a ban on publications related to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and more (LGBTQ+) elements found on Swatch watches.
In a statement by KDN, they informed that through Government Gazette P.U.(A) 236 dated August 10 (Thursday), there is also a ban on the publication of any collection including boxes, wrappers, accessories or any other related items.
“The publication of this prohibition order is in line with the provisions of the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA) 1984 (Amendment) 2012.”
“It stipulates that printing, importing, reproducing, publishing, selling, producing, circulating, distributing or possessing the results of the publication involved is absolutely prohibited in Malaysia,” the statement read.
On top of that, KDN shared that the measure is committed to prevent the spread of elements that are harmful to morals, public interests and the country.
They added that the results of the publication involved were subject to a ban because they were harmful publications by promoting, supporting and normalising the LGBTQ+ movement, which is not accepted by Malaysians.
“It is reminded that based on the provisions under Section 8(2) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA) 1984 (Amendment) 2012, individuals who print, import, produce, reproduce, publish and sell, upon conviction, can be imprisoned for a period not exceeding 3 years or a fine not exceeding RM20,000 or both.”
“The offense includes producing, circulating, offering to sell, distributing or having in possession for any such purpose and any prohibited publication,” they explained.
