A woman from New Delhi backed out of being a bridesmaid for her best friend’s wedding after getting an email listing all the costs, including a deposit for the bachelorette party.

In a post that has since been deleted, Sheila (pseudonym) shared that she was initially excited and honoured when her longtime school friend, Megan, asked her to be a bridesmaid, as reported by NDTV.

The costs added up to 70,000 rupees

However, the excitement didn’t last long. Just a few weeks later, she got an email listing all the hefty expenses she’d have to cover as a bridesmaid.

The breakdown included costs for the bridesmaid dress, makeup and hairstyling, a gift for the bride, a deposit for the bachelorette party, and extra fees for other wedding expenses, all adding up to 70,000 Rupees (RM3,600).

“These costs are necessary”

Shocked by the amount, she immediately reached out to Megan, explaining that she couldn’t afford it due to other financial commitments, like student loan repayments and personal savings.

However, Megan didn’t budge and insisted that these costs were “normal” for modern weddings.

“I just want everything to be perfect, and these costs are necessary. If you can’t be my bridesmaid, I understand, but I can’t change my plans for anyone else,” Megan wrote in the same post.
