In times of crisis, we Malaysians really do make the best of our circumstances and do our level best to help one another, regardless of our differences in race, religion, or culture. And for one elderly rubber tapper, this kita jaga kita attitude that Malaysians have shown have definitely made a lasting impact on his life!

According to China Press, an elderly 80-year-old rubber tapper was fined RM1,000 after he violated the Movement Control Order. But being poor and out of work, there’s no way that the old man could have afforded to pay the fine on his own, given the lack of income. However, his plight soon caught the attention of Malaysian netizens!

And would you know it, Malaysian netizens decided to come together and organise a fundraiser to help pay off the elderly uncle’s fine!

Together, they managed to raise just enough so that the entire RM1,000 fine would be settled for the uncle. A representative then visited the uncle at his home, and donated the money to him. How wonderful!

But he didn’t just stop there; the man even donated masks to the elderly uncle, to ensure that he would be safe from Covid-19! As it turns out, the old man was arrested on 11th April 2020 for violating the MCO, as it was a habit of his to go into town to relax and enjoy a cup of tea after working on weekdays.

We hope that the uncle will know better than to go outside during this period, and we hope that he will stay safe during this MCO period!
