A Malaysian mother was left to bear the massive debts of her daughter, who has left for the United States of America for better opportunities.
In a viral TikTok post by @mhomalaysia, the Secretary-General of the Malaysian International Humanitarian Organization (MHO), Hishamuddin Hashim shared his conversation with a Malaysian woman who is currently facing a whopping RM100,000 debt with loan sharks.
“I’m not living, I’m just existing,” the woman lamented.
In the interview with Hishamuddin, the woman explained the steps she had taken to clear her daughter’s personal loans and credit card debts. The mother herself tried to apply for bank loans, but the applications were rejected because she was not eligible for any of them.
“I was working, but my part time business was not doing well. I have cash flow problems.”
Desperate, the woman saw only one option – borrowing from the loan sharks.
From a loan of RM600, the woman is now juggling a massive RM100,000 in debts after borrowing from two loan sharks.
“I was able to keep up with the interests at first before it snowballed into something I cannot afford.”
The woman also said she had lodged a police report for the matter, and Hishamuddin reminded the woman NOT to pay the loan sharks anything due to the legality of their businesses. He also took the time to explain about legitimate loans to the struggling woman.
