Staying home is the new going out, and IKEA Malaysia is ready to prove it. Starting this September, the much-loved home furnishing retailer is throwing a month-long celebration across all four stores i.e. IKEA Damansara, Cheras, Tebrau and Batu Kawan.

Dubbed the IKEA House Party, the event is filled with food, design, and everyday fun. Think cooking demos, creative table styling masterclasses, cosy gigs and even an “Ultimate Cookoff” where three grand prize winners will walk away with kitchen makeovers worth RM10,000 each. It is both an invitation and an inspiration for Malaysians to fall in love with their home all over again.

The event shines a spotlight on cooking, eating and dining, where ideas and solutions come together to simplify the process, ease preparation and support people in making healthier and more sustainable choices. A dream kitchen is no longer a fantasy, with storage that helps reduce food waste, tools and utensils that make cooking more efficient, and modular setups that ensure every space works harder.

“The joy of home starts in the kitchen. In Malaysia, the kitchen is truly the heart of the home, where meaningful moments, shared laughter and family bonding often begin with meals made with love,” said Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Director of IKEA Malaysia.

“We also know that with rising costs and busier lives, it’s not always easy to keep home feeling joyful. Through IKEA House Party, we want to show just how possible and achievable to have a home that is more enjoyable, delectable, comfortable and customisable. To complement this, we’ve also made a selection of IKEA favourites even more affordable.”

Design for the Many People

Guiding the desire to make home joyful are the Democratic Design principles at the core of every IKEA product. It is a philosophy that design should not only look good, but also work well, last long, and be better for people and the planet, all at a price that is accessible to everyone, not a privilege few.

“Bringing joy to others is one of the greatest things we can do at IKEA, and design is a tool for that,” said Marcus Arvonen, Senior Designer at IKEA Sweden who is behind some of the iconic favourites like BESTA, PS collection and UPPTADERA.

“Everything we design follows the five dimensions of Democratic Design: form, function, quality, sustainability and affordability. Alongside this, we draw from a deep understanding of life at home to create solutions that make everyday living easier, smarter and joyful.”

This understanding is also reflected in the latest IKEA Life at Home report, a global study that captures how people live, what brings them joy, and the challenges they face.

In Malaysia, the findings show that the kitchen remain central to daily life, with more people turning to home-cooked meals for health, savings, and meaningful family moments. Comfort at home is also defined by simple pleasures, from me-time and hobbies to the ease of organised, welcoming spaces.

All these rituals are setting the next chapter for IKEA, with an emphasis on the spaces where everyday life happens in the next 12 months.

  • Cooking & Eating – From pots and pans to quality kitchen systems across price ranges, IKEA makes it easy to create a kitchen that can be customised for any space, lifestyle and budget.
  • Dining – From plating to pouring, the dining table is where conversations with friends flow and connections with family deepen. With various sizes and material options, there is something for every gathering, paired with affordable glassware, serveware, tablecloths and chair pads to refresh any space.
  • Living Room – Comfort at home is as much about feeling as it is about function. Cushions, curtains, rugs and décor turn the living room into a space for both everyday relaxation and festive hosting, while practical touches make serving light food and welcoming guests effortless.
  • Storage – From boxing and stacking to finally finding satisfaction that is customisable in your own space and on your own terms. With shelving units, cabinets, wardrobes, trolleys, baskets and boxes, IKEA storage solutions solve organising problems in any room, bringing order and harmony to every corner of the home.

“From family dinners to movie nights, we understand that Malaysians want homes that support them, so they can enjoy a better life at home regardless of living space, life circumstances and budget,” added Pruys. “That’s why you will see even more inspiration and new solutions coming from IKEA, designed to be affordable, sustainable, and made for the way Malaysians really live and enjoy their homes.”
