UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has announced that he is stepping down from his post as the Melaka State Executive Councillor (Exco) for Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Security.
This was confirmed by Akmal himself today (15 January) during the UMNO Youth assembly, saying that his resignation will take effect next week at an unspecified date.

However, Akmal will not be stepping down as UMNO Youth Chief, saying that staying in the position sends a message to those who thought that he would run away.
He added that he doesn’t care about money or positions in the government, as he wouldn’t have stepped down from his post in the Melaka State Government, which earned him “tens of thousands of Ringgit” if that were the case.
“I can tell everyone that for my principles, for my dignity, I’m resigning as Melaka Exco to fight the Democratic Action Party (DAP) until the end! We will fight and fight until the end! We will preserve the dignity of UMNO!” he announced.
During the assembly, which was broadcast on the UMNO Youth Facebook page, Akmal also reminded fellow UMNO Youth members to remain fearless.

“I am someone with dignity. What about you?”
In the meantime, Akmal, who is also the Merlimau Assemblyman, also took the opportunity to answer a question that has always been posed to him – who do you think you are?
“I am someone with dignity. Do you have dignity?” I just want to say, when I am no longer an Exco, I will fight you until the end. UMNO’s dignity is not like yours, lots of talks, no actions!”
Khairy Jamaluddin, who was sacked from the party, was also present, after being invited to the convention as a former UMNO Youth Chief.
