Animal abuse has been making headlines recently, with numerous dogs suffering horribly at the hands of their owners. It warms our hearts to see that many Malaysians are stepping up to ensure these dogs receive the help they need. It’s a reminder that not all heroes wear capes.
Dhiviyan reached out to WORLD OF BUZZ to share a heartbreaking story of 2 dogs being left in poor condition by their owner at his home in Ulu Tiram, Johor.
A husky and a mongrel
Dhiviyan, a veterinary student, brought this issue to our attention after hearing from a friend about 2 dogs, a husky and a mongrel, in very poor living conditions. The friend mentioned that the dogs were in dire shape, prompting Dhiviyan to visit the home himself.
When he arrived the next day, he was shocked to find that the husky had already died. Although the mongrel was still alive, it was in a severely neglected state.
“Both dogs were kept on the front porch and were infested with ticks and fleas. They were also extremely emaciated.”
He took it upon himself to lodge a report
Dhiviyan was curious about how this situation occurred, so he reached out to the owner’s neighbours to inquire about the owner’s whereabouts.
The neighbours informed him that the owner visits the home about 5 nights a week and described him as irresponsible.
Dhiviyan further explained that, given the husky’s death was a result of neglect, he felt compelled to file a police report and also notify the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS).
“I invited the owner’s neighbours to join me in filing the report, but none of them were willing to participate, so I ended up going to the police station on my own.”
“I want justice for the dogs”
Dhiviyan mentioned that upon returning home, he was contacted by a friend living in the neighbourhood where the dogs were located. His friend informed him that both dogs went missing the same night Dhiviyan visited the home.
“I felt helpless and had to rely on officials to take action. The next day, I emailed the address provided on their website and waited for a response. I received a reply two days later, directing me to file a report on another website. I did so and also called DVS to emphasise the urgency, as the dogs were now missing.”
He revealed that DVS told him he would receive a response within 2 days, but claims he never did.
“I sincerely hope that more passionate and dedicated individuals will join DVS. With their commitment, incidents like this would likely be taken more seriously and addressed promptly. It’s crucial that DVS acts swiftly in this case, especially since the dogs are now missing.”
WORLD OF BUZZ has reached out to the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) but has yet to receive a response.
