It’s been 3 weeks ever since Matt Healy of the UK band The 1975 kissed his bandmate on stage and ranted about the Malaysian government at the Good Vibes Festival 2023.
His actions ultimately caused the 3-day music festival to be cancelled by the government and their remaining sets in Asia were cancelled as well.
Their first show after this whole fiasco was at Lollapalooza Chicago and many people were in attendance. This includes Blink-182’s co-lead vocalist and guitarist, Tom Delonge.
It is said that Tom was in the photo pit and when Matt Healy saw him, he went to give him a hug while saying that he really loves the older musician.
In an Instagram post after the set, Tom Delonge publicly announced that he will not be coming to Malaysia.
“I guess myself ‘AND’ the @the1975 won’t be going to Malaysia – just a couple dudes kissing during their phenomenal set at #lollapalooza @trumanblack.”
His post has certainly angered many people- especially Malaysians.
“I don’t respect you anymore Tom. Thank you for Blink 182 but it ends today.”
During The 1975’s set, Matt Healy also started their song “It’s Not Living If It’s Not With You,” by saying,
“You want my travel tip? Don’t go to…” before getting cut off by the guitar intro.
Well, it certainly seems that Matt Healy and his band will be making Malaysia the butt of their jokes and recycling them for a while so that they can appear in headlines more often.
At the same time, it is also concerning to see bands that we love agreeing with this problematic individual. What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments!
