An anonymous sharing resonated with Malaysians online recently after the poster shared how distraught they were when their family and friends didn’t bother to celebrate or even remember their birthday.
This is despite the individual always putting the effort to celebrate their friends and family’s birthdays by buying presents, sending cakes and balloons and more.
The individual sent their frustrations anonymously to X user @meinmokhtar who posted on the platform. Many Malaysians seem to resonate with the individual’s sharing as the post went viral with over 5,000 likes and more than 1,900 reposts.
In the anonymous message, the Malaysian shared,
“I always put in effort to celebrate/buy presents/send cakes/balloons for my close friends’ birthdays. Family too.”
“But for my birthday a few days ago, until today I haven’t blown any candles because there’s no one to celebrate with. I have consoled myself but when I went home after work today, I cried uncontrollably because I felt unimportant.”
In the comments, many empathised with the individual’s disheartenment and wished them a happy birthday.
One commenter said that the person is a people pleaser and that their love language is an act of service, hence they should try to expect nothing when doing something to not get disappointed.
Meanwhile, another commenter said that next year, instead of celebrating others, they should celebrate themselves first and just ignore naysayers who say doing so is selfish or petty.
