The incident took place at a bridge near Kuala Ibai. According to Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Cheif, Rozizah Abnihajar, the couple aged 37 and 39 were heading to Kuala Terengganu.

Rozizah also said that during the incident, heavy rain and strong winds had caused the tree to fall and crushed the hood of the Proton Waja as reported by Astro Awani.

The incident also caused a traffic jam as the tree landed in the middle of the road. The fire department quickly responded to the situation dispatching nine officers to the scene.

Before the firefighters arrived, members of the public had already successfully helped the couple to get out of their vehicle. It took 30 minutes for the firefighters to remove the fallen tree and clear the road.
