A policeman in Indonesia went viral on TikTok recently thanks to his heartwarming action of celebrating an inmate’s birthday by buying pizzas for the whole room of prison cells.
The prison officer, TikTok user Ferdinand23 or Ferdinand Malambae has made it his life mission to “humanise humans” and one of the ways he is doing so is by treating prisoners with respect.
As of the time of writing, the video has garnered over 24 million views and more than 1.7 million likes on TikTok, with many praising Ferdinand’s actions.
In the video, the prison officer can be seen entering the room with several prison cells and talking with an inmate called Boyok.
Ferdinand then pranked Boyok by accusing the inmate of talking badly about him behind his back, saying, “You’re the one who was saying bad things about me in the past few days, right?”
Boyok then denied the matter but when Ferdinand asked the other inmates, they corroborated that Boyok did talk bad about the prison officer.
Unbeknown to Boyok, Ferdinand had actually coordinated with the other inmates to prank Boyok on his birthday.
The prison officer then asked Boyok how old he was, to which the inmate replied that he was 20 years old.
Ferdinand then asked whether today was his birthday and when Boyok affirmed the matter, all inmates in the cells started singing Happy Birthday. Concurrently, another policeman brought in several boxes of pizza with a candle on top.
Ferdinand then asked Boyok to make a birthday wish before blowing out the candle, in which the inmate said that he hoped to repent properly.
The policeman then distributed the pizza boxes to the whole prison cells and asked who’s birthday was next, to which one inmate said that his birthday was coming soon.
