A 10-year validity passport is certainly a good idea and could be launched soon!

The Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, has said that the ministry is ready to launch passports with a 10-year validity period.

Elaborating further, he said that the implementation date for issuing these passports will be announced after some studies are conducted.

“Are we ready? Yes… after comprehensive studies, we have decided to move forward with the issuance of 10-year passports.”

However, this does not mean that the 5-year passports will disappear. What this means is that we have an extra option to choose between the 5-year and 10-year passports.

According to BERNAMA, the minister also mentioned that the Immigration Department has conducted several feasibility studies to evaluate Malaysia’s readiness to introduce such passports, following similar practices by other nations.

He added that 10-year passports are not new in the region; they are currently being implemented in our neighbouring countries, such as Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore. Other countries, such as the United States and Italy, also issue passports with a validity of 10 years.

This is certainly good news for those who love to travel. A 10-year validity will also mean that we won’t need to renew our passports as frequently.
