Many of us are probably now well acquainted with the highly virulent nature of the Wuhan coronavirus, nobody could have known just how quickly the virus has spread, and to what extent the reach of the virus’ transmission is.
Well, in a recently reported piece of news by Business Insider, the very heart of the virus’ national origin, China, has faced what is likely the worst case scenario.
This report comes after China’s National Health Committee (NHC) reported on Thursday (30th January 2020) that even the most remote parts of China, Tibet, has reported cases of the Wuhan coronavirus. With that in mind, this means that all 34 provinces in China, which is one of the largest nations in the world, have contracted the Wuhan coronavirus.
As of yesterday, a total of 7,711 confirmed cases have been reported in mainland China, while 170 people have already died as a result of the Wuhan coronavirus. The death toll is speculated to continue to climb, despite mortality rates dropping.
However, despite the spreading of the virus throughout all of China, it bears to note that of all the confirmed cases of the virus, more than 4,500 – or around 60% – originated from the Hubei province, where Wuhan, the epicentre, is located. Many experts have speculated that the rapid spread of the virus is attributed to the mass travelling of Chinese nationals within the nation itself, coinciding with the Lunar New Year celebrations.
China’s National Health Committee has also reported that the number of cases as a result of the Wuhan coronavirus has officially risen above that of the SARS outbreak in 2002-2003, where the number of cases maxed out at 5,327 in mainland China.
For those of you who are reading this in China, please take all the necessary precautions to prevent yourself from falling ill! We wish everyone the best in persevering through this tumultuous time, and hope that it passes soon!
