In his live press conference today, Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, announced necessary SOPs for Deepavali that will be celebrated on 14 November.

Here’s a complete list of SOPs for Deepavali celebrations depending on whether your area is under RMCO, CMCO or EMCO:

1. Balik kampungs  (inter-state, inter-district travels) will not be allowed from areas under EMCO into areas under CMCO and vice versa.

RMCO & CMCO Areas

1. For temples in areas under RMCO and CMCO, you will be allowed to visit temples ONLY on the first day provided there’s a sanitisation counter at the entrance and visitors register using the MySejahtera app.

2. Patrons with chronic diseases, elderly and children below the age of 12 are not encouraged to visit the temples.

3. Only 30 people are allowed into the temple at one time but this depends on the size of the temple as well.

4. Prayers are allowed to begin at 7am and should end by 12pm and there MUST be a 30-minute break between each session to allow sanitisation in the temple. There should be a total of five prayer sessions and five sanitisation sessions in total.

5. Sweets and offerings can be distributed to patrons but must be packaged properly.

6. For home visitations, if your house is a landed property under RMCO or CMCO, only 20 people will be allowed to visit at one time.

7. If your house is an apartment or condominium with a space of not more than 1,500 square feet, not more than 10 people will be allowed to visit. If your house is more than 1,500 square feet, there can be no more than 15 people in the house at one time.

8. Homeowners and guests are encouraged to maintain social distancing and hygiene at all times.

9. Businesses can only be conducted if you obtain permission from local authorities for areas under CMCO and RMCO but online businesses are encouraged.

EMCO Areas

1. For areas under EMCO, prayers in temple WILL NOT be allowed at all.

2. If your house is under EMCO, no one will be allowed to enter from outside and you will only be celebrating with the people inside your own house.

3. In areas under EMCO, businesses will NOT be allowed at all.

The minister added that full information will be up soon in the National Defence Council’s page.
