So, anyone who owns a dog knows that it’s important to get them registered for a license. Who knows, what if one day your dog decides to run away and animal control services don’t know who to return it to because it isn’t licensed? It’s definitely one responsibility every dog owner shouldn’t take lightly.
Although it’s undoubtedly a joy when you first get a new pet, the paperwork is definitely tedious and time-consuming since most areas require you to physically submit your paperwork at your local municipal office in order to get a license for your dog. Where got time for that? We’re busy people, after all!
However, if you’re in KL, it’s actually much easier to apply and renew your dog’s license as the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has an online portal specifically dedicated to this.
So, if you’ve just gotten a dog but have too much on your hands to physically apply for a license, here’s how you can get your pup’s license online;
For dog owners in households like bungalows, terraces or factories
- Create an account on the portal, log in, set up your profile, and fill in relevant details
- Once it’s set up, you can select ‘Permohonan Lesen Baru‘ (request for new license) in the drop down menu on the home page
- Double check the address you want to register your dog under and click ‘Tambah Lesen Baru‘ (add new license)
- Fill in the relevant details about your dog and submit your application
- Applications will be automatically accepted or rejected. If your application has been approved, print out the bill
- Make the payment at any DBKL branch
- Receive your dog’s badge and receipt upon payment
For dog owners in apartments, town houses, or multi level buildings
- Fill in the application online. Applicants must also have a consent letter such as the ‘Surat Kebenaran Memelihara Anjing‘ from the Joint Body Management (JMB) or the Management Corporation (MC)
- The application will be processed by DBKL’s health and environmental department within 14 working days
- If your application has been approved, print out the bill
- Make the payment at any DBKL branch
- Receive your dog’s badge and receipt upon payment
If your application has been rejected, you can make an appeal on the portal as well. This takes up to 14 working days to process.
As for license renewals, users can select ‘Pembaharuan Lesen‘ in the drop-down menu on the homepage to update the relevant information.
Once the information has been updated, users can then submit the renewal application, which will be automatically approved or rejected. Like the application process, users can print out the bill once the license renewal is approved and make their payment at any DBKL branch.
If you want to find out more about this online portal, you can check out their FAQ page here and their homepage here.
So, now there’s no excuse not to apply for a license for your beloved furry friend!
