The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will implement a driving ban, or “road ban”, on goods and heavy vehicles in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations on 14-15 February and 21-22 February.
JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the measure aims to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure smoother traffic flow during the festive season.
He said the movement ban applies to three categories of vehicles, as follows:
- Category 1, which is subject to a full-day ban on the specified date,
- Category 2, which is prohibited from operating between 8 AM and 8 PM, and
- Category 3, which is restricted from 6 PM to 9 AM

For illustration purposes only
Category 1 involves heavy carriers and dump trucks with loads exceeding 7,500 kg, low-loader trucks, pole trailers, platform trailers, logging trucks, and heavy wheeled machinery, except tow trucks and tractors used for emergency and rescue operations.
Category 2 includes container lorries transporting goods, except those operating from ports or airports to deliver goods to industrial areas within the state.
Category 3 involves construction vehicles, including mobile cranes and cement mixer lorries, with exemptions granted for emergency work.

“Any goods vehicle or vehicles carrying types of goods not specified in the schedule are allowed to operate during the prohibition period,” Aedy said, as reported by BERNAMA.
