A huge fight broke out between 2 groups of men at a restaurant in Palm Square, Papar, Sabah, allegedly due to a restaurant owner’s name being called in a rude manner.

According to a report by Berita Harian, the incident, which took place on Monday (June 23) at about 1pm, became increasingly uncontrollable until a riot broke out, with sticks and chairs being thrown. It is understood that all the suspects later surrendered to the police before being detained for further investigations.

The Papar District Police Chief, Superintendent Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka, shared that the 9 men who were detained to assist in investigations into the fight and riot are aged 19 to 50. He then explained that the incident is believed to have started due to a misunderstanding when one of the suspects allegedly called the restaurant owner’s name in a rude tone.
